A Meyer Lemon versus a regular Lemon?

Did you know there is a distinct flavor difference? I grow Lemon Meyer and regular ones. The Meyer lemon is a lovely flavor of lemon and orange (mandarin orange tasting). Our regular lemon a bit more acidity. Used much more in cooking than a Meyer Lemon. If you get a chance purchase one of each and try the difference. I think it may surprise you!

Both are great in cooking Seafood, making sauces, dips, for their zests and juices. Both are great in desserts, side dishes.

You can grow a Meyer Lemon (Tree/giant herb plant) fairly easily using a giant container (on rollers) good soil more than one tree 2-4 is ideal. They thrive in sunny Florida. In cooler temperatures bring them inside near a sunny window but not in front of a heat source. Regularly water. You’ll be surprised at how easy they are to grow and yield wonderful fruit.

One Pan Sausage Alfredo

We haven’t yet talked about One Pan Dishes! They are super easy to prepare (usually have leftovers to freeze or for another meal-possibly lunch) very affordable too.

For this recipe:

You’ll need 8 ounce link of sausage (in casing) smoked or regular, cut into bite sized slices, 1 teaspoon black pepper, 1 teaspoon sage, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 cup cream, 1 cup Milk, 2 cups grated parmesan cheese, 2 cups cooked penne pasta. Saute the sausage rounds 7-8 minutes add seasonings, add in cream and milk, allow to cook 3-4 minutes stirring during cooking time. Optional handful of peas, 1/2 roma tomato diced. Add parmesan cheese and stir, add in the cooked pasta, stir well. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley.

Serve immediately and enjoy! Freeze leftovers in a freezer safe container. Or if you like eat leftovers for lunch! Just microwave 1-2 minutes and stir. I love this with a side green mixed salad and crusty buttered bread. Does not get any easier than that! The flavors are terrific together.

Have you ever made your own Cookie “Sprinkles”?

For years I have been making my own sugar (cookie) sprinkles. They were at one time the most economical bakery aisle item going. Then all of a sudden they spiked crazy high in price for an itsy bitsy size plastic jar. Y’all it is so easy to make at home. The children love to sprinkle their Christmas cookies! I set out small bowls add 1/4 cup of fine granulated sugar in each bowl. I buy a 4 pack of food coloring. The typical colors are green and red for Christmas. Make Pastels colors for Easter and Red, white and blue for Memorial Day, 4th Of July, Labor Day. So I use a fork drop 10 drops slowly in the bowl of sugar stirring the entire time to mix. Allow to completely dry. I even store the homemade stuff in the containers the store bought stuff is sold in (after I used it all up I kept them). During the Holidays we do a lot of baking. How about you? Give this DIY a try you’ll be pleased at how easy it is to do! (Posted on Tasty Kitchen.com but you will remember it from here -easy).

Olive Oil & Lemon~Sesame Green Beans

This is an easy, delicious, economical side dish. One pound fresh green beans (snip ends), blanch in hot salted water for 4 minutes,  remove and add into ice bath. Remove (once cooled) into a mixing bowl,  add 1/2 fresh lemon (juice only), 1 tablespoon Pure Olive oil, one tablespoon sesame seeds, stir and microwave one minute, serve and enjoy!

That easy and delicious-Give them a try you may surprise yourself and love them!

Cucumber~Strawberry Detox/Rehydration-Lime Water

Should you get out and about and have way too much good cheer, or to much exercise, you may enjoy this afterwards!!! Super refreshing!

In a pitcher add fresh Cold Water, one sliced and peeled cucumber, 1 lime juice, one lime sliced, several large hulled sliced strawberries.

Refrigerate promptly after stirring. Allow to chill and then serve with a slice of lime.

Super refreshing!

A “Light Green” Smoothie

This smoothie is light and refreshing and will give you some veggies!!! 1 stalk celery hearts, rinsed, cut into pieces, 1 cup Baby Spinach rinsed or you can use kale, 1/2 cup 1% milk, add celery pieces into your blender pulse several times, add baby spinach (or Kale) run one minute on high, add milk and combine well in the blender. Add slice of lime for garnish.

Pour into a chilled glass and enjoy!

A little veggie every now and then never hurts!

Berry~Lemon~Banana Tarts

These little tarts are so flavorful, economical and easy!!! Purchase the 6 pack mini graham cracker crumb tarts in mini aluminum tins, 2 cups mixed frozen berries, 4 ounce weight cool whipped topping, 2 bananas (divided use), one lemon for juice (divided use) you can zest the lemon first and freeze the zest for a later use.

In a food processor (or blender) add 1-1/2 bananas, pulse several times, add frozen berries and run to puree to a chunky state (it is ok to be a little bit lumpy for texture), add 1/2 lemon juice, fold in cool whip topping, fill each of the (6) pie tarts add sliced banana (squeeze lemon juice over sliced bananas to eliminate browning) to the top of each and refrigerate until ready to serve. I normally make these and serve them within one hour of preparation. Best served chilled.

These are so yummy…
